Summary: Unfair treatment on the basis of gender, race, age, religion etc. limits social, cultural and economic exchange, and is counterproductive in an open society and free-market.

Author's statement:
Western civilization has spawned a cultural and economic
marvel, the right of the autonomous, free-thinking
individual to live independently and pretty much as one
chooses. Yet, in the workplace and in the social arena, we
continue to observe some amount of unfair treatment. Our
human and civil rights are protected, and there are many laws
ensuring equality of all persons, but for whatever reason,
some individuals proceed to exhibit racist, bigited, and
sexist behavior.
Our society depends on the interconnectedness of
individuals trading with, and living with one another.
Out-moded cultural and fraternal traditions pursist, often
because of ignorance. One may have been taught to think a
certain way, or simply hasn't considered other ideas and
options.
Unfair treatment of other persons is hurtful and fosters
resentment, limiting one's ability to advance in the
workplace, to circulate freely socially, or to live where one
wants to. Many social ills were brought into existence by
unfair treatment of one group or another. Our modern ghettos
are communities enhabited by people who perceive themselves
as disfranchised by society. They are the beneficiaries of
our racist past. An isolated population, still fighting the
after effects of enslavement and racial inequality. They must
endure this, and current racial inequality too.
Biases based on gender, age, religion or any other
aspect of ourselves, ferments hatred in individuals, which
makes the world a more cruel and unfair place to live.
Treating everyone equally expands social and economic
opportunities and promotes harmony in the self and the world.
