Throughout the '90s, Beverly Hills, 90210 was not only a mainstay of the Fox prime-time schedule but also a pop-culture touchstone for young Americans. The teen soap made stars out of Luke Perry, Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling and many others. Unlike most TV shows about young adults, Beverly Hills, 90210 addressed a wide variety of topical issues, from alcoholism and drug abuse to safe sex and suicide. Although several of the program's costars faced some high-profile problems in real life, veteran producer Aaron Spelling guided the show to a 10-year run and helped the fledgling Fox Network solidify its claim to the young-adult audience.
