Summary: Meaningful work allows us the opportunity to express our innate talents, creativity, and intellect. Meaningful work is both life-affirming and non-exploitive.
Author's statement:
Typical adults spend more time at work than at any other
single activity (with the exception of sleep). It is
important, therefore, if we are to be fulfilled
human beings, that we are engaged in our work, that we do
more than "show up." It is important that our work is
something we love to do, that our spiritual values
(whatever they may be, or not be) can be integrated with
this work, that it allows us the opportunity to be creative,
and that we feel it has real meaning and purpose. For each
of us this work will be different, but it is important that
we each identify this work and either do it or work towards
doing it.
It is easy in this world that we live to become caught
up in the "rat race," to work solely for the dollar, to work
solely to buy more. Look at your work. Is it fulfilling?
Is it honest? Is it exploiting anyone? You? Work at
something you love and you will be a happier, better human.
